Kids & family fitting

Growing feet need more than a bigger size.

A kid's foot changes shape as it grows, not just length. The same free 3D scan and gait analysis we do for adults works for young athletes, and it catches the things a thumb-width check at the shoe store never will.

One visit can cover the whole family

Why it matters early

Kids do not tell you their shoes hurt. They just stop wanting to go.

A ten-year-old will not say "my arch is collapsing on the push-off." They will say practice is boring, or their legs are tired, or they do not feel like it today. Sometimes that is just being ten. Sometimes it is a shoe that stopped fitting two months ago.

Shape, not just length

Width and arch change as a foot grows. A shoe can have a half inch of room at the toe and still be wrong across the middle.

Growth is not symmetrical

One foot often runs ahead of the other. Scanning both separately is the only way to see it, and it is common enough that we expect it.

The visit

Quick, low pressure, and kind of fun.

Four steps

01

We ask them, not you

What sport, what surface, what hurts. Kids answer honestly when someone asks them directly, and they usually know more about their own feet than anyone expects.

Bring the shoes they are wearing now.

02

Stand on the scanner

About a minute, and most kids think seeing their own feet on the screen is the best part of the trip. Nothing touches them, nothing pinches, nothing hurts.

Parents see the same screen. Ask us anything on it.

03

A short jog, if they are up for it

Same gait analysis as adults, same thirty seconds. If a kid is shy about the treadmill we skip it and work from the scan and the wear on their current shoes. No one gets talked into anything.

Optional, always.

04

They pick, we advise

We narrow it to the pairs that actually fit, then let them choose from those. A kid who picked their own shoes wears their own shoes. Same 30-day trial as everyone else.

Color is their call. Fit is ours.

A kid who likes running keeps running.

When to come back

Signs the shoe is done.

Re-scans are free too

01

Heels slipping, or toes curling

Both mean the fit moved, even if the size on the box still looks right.

02

New complaints after practice

Shins, knees, arches. Growing bodies do complain, but a shoe is the cheapest thing to rule out first.

03

A new season, a new surface

Cross country to track, or track to a summer of trails, changes what the shoe has to do.

04

The tread is smooth

Bring the old pair in either way. Where it wore down tells us how they land.

For the parent paying

They are going to grow out of it. We know.

It is a fair thing to weigh. Our answer is not to push the most expensive shoe on the wall. It is to find the one that fits the foot in front of us, in the range you tell us. Say your number out loud. It genuinely makes the fitting easier.

And when they grow out of it, come back in. The re-scan is free, the conversation is short, and we will already have their history.

Bring along

The shoes they wear to practice

Team or league requirements, if any

Siblings, one trip, everyone scanned

Any orthotics or inserts they use

Walk-ins welcome. Booking guarantees a fitter.

Parent questions.

If they can stand still on the scanner for a minute, we can scan them. For very young kids the scan matters more than the gait analysis, and that is fine. It still tells us width and arch, which is where most kids' shoe problems start.

For everyday wear, often yes. For running, be more careful: a shoe molds to the first kid's stride, and the midsole is already partly used up. Bring the hand-me-downs in and we will tell you honestly whether they have miles left.

Call ahead and ask for the current season's stock. Availability moves with the calendar. Either way, the fitting comes first: what a young athlete needs for daily training miles is a different shoe from what they race in.

Then we skip it. Tell your fitter on the way in and no one will ask twice. The scan plus the wear pattern on their current shoes gets us most of the way there.

Yes, and it is worth calling first so we can have enough fitters free. Family visits take longer than one person, and we would rather block the time than rush anybody.
